Sealegs Sponsor Largest Recreational Amphibious Event In The World

Sealegs International are pleased to confirm Platinum Sponsorship for the Onetangi Beach Races, 2018. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Sealegs has been the platinum sponsor for the event, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary of modern races this year.

Sealegs Chief Executive Officer David McKee Wright said “the beach races are a quintessential kiwi day. We celebrate how lucky we are to live in New Zealand, our relationship to the sea and good old fashioned kiwi ingenuity. We're proud to sponsor the event for the 5th time, and we look forward to maintaining and building on our relationship with the races, the island of Waiheke and the wonderful people that inhabit it."

This year, the races will be held on February 11th - brought forward from the usual timing to secure the best tide for the event, ensuring a fun-filled day for all involved. Activities for children begin at 10am, with races commencing at 10:15am.

The Sealegs races will begin at 1:10pm with the Speed Race, followed shortly after by the Exhibition Race. The Speed Race has Sealegs pilots navigate a marked course as quickly as possible, with mastery of the Sealegs amphibious system key to victory. The Exhibition Race, the premiere event of recent years, invites participants to dress up both themselves and their Sealegs craft in a show of ingenuity and creativity.

Mckee Wright went on to say, "The races provide our owners a unique opportunity to gather together in one place with their craft to exchange stories, meet and speak to Sealegs staff and, most importantly, show off their decorated craft and costumes. We've seen sailors, pirates, water balloon fights and even some superheros - our owners never fail to surprise us with what they come up with for the exhibition race."
